Each year, the Oxford Dictionary chooses a word of the year – for 2014, that word is “Vape”.
Oxford Dictionary chief Casper Grathwohl explains:
- “This year “vape” sat at the centre of several rich conversations: the debate over private versus community rights; regulation and public health; and our relationship to our visible vices.”
According to this story from the Guardian, words of the year fall into one of two categories:
- Those that will continue to be useful
- Those that already reek of novelty value or worse
