Travel Checklist for Smokeless Cigarette Enthusiasts
When planning your trip, it's a good idea to ask the car rental company, hotel, and transportation hub if they allow electronic smoking. Despite the public smoking bans in the U.S., many airports and other hubs of transportation have designated smoking areas.
Abroad, smoking bans are nonexistent in many places or less restricting. You will probably have an easier time enjoying your favorite habit overseas. Nonetheless, it's always wise to ask if electronic cigarettes are allowed. The last thing you want on a trip is to be prosecuted or fined! When in doubt, ask. It's a courteous gesture that will most likely result in a "yes."
The smokeless cigarette is a good choice for traveling since its noncombustible, compact and its accessories, like USB charger, can be conveniently used in most places.
Choose an E-Cig Starter Kit
If you are a frequent traveler for business or pleasure, you will want to purchase an e-cig starter kit so that you everything you need in one handy case. A basic kit includes 2 wall chargers (1 wall, 1 USB), 2 batteries (1 standard, 1 high capacity), and 10 e-liquid cartridges in your choice of flavor and nicotine strength.
While most airlines and trains do not permit electronic smoking on board, the kit is compact enough that you could place it in your carry-on bag, if desired.
Electronic Smoking Checklist
The standard e-cig starter kit has everything you need, but having extra batteries or chargers on hand is a great idea.
- Batteries – When going out of town for an extended period of time, you should bring spare batteries. Ideally, you should charge the current ones you have. Then, you should pack two extras; this is a smart option as you may lose or damage one. Either way, with enough charged batteries, you can enjoy your e-cig without interruption. If you have a charger, bring it as along as it offers you a convenient way to recharge your batteries. If you are renting a car, you should bring a car charger. If you're heading out of the country, remember to bring a power converter. If you can't get one in time or forget it, many hotel concierges have converters you can use.
- Cartridges – Without a doubt, you need to pack extra e-liquid cartridges. It's often difficult to buy them while traveling, especially since the electronic smoking products are not yet offered for sale everywhere. Pack two or three extra cartridges—possibly more if you think that you may use more while traveling.
- Carry Case – You can use the container that you received your e-cig starter kit in, a small cosmetic bag sold at most department stores, or store your e-cig supplies in your laptop bag. It's important to store your electronic cigarette and accessories in a safe place so that it doesn't get damaged. If you put everything in one place, you are less likely to lose an item. You will also save time and frustration if your items are organized and stored together for easy inspection at security checkpoints.
- Small Cloth or Towel – If you use your electronic cigarette often, it will need regular cleaning. If you'd rather not carry around cleaning supplies, consider packing a cloth or towel. You can dampen the towel with warm water and wipe down the device. It's important to keep it clean so that it works properly. If you don't, there may be a decrease in vapor volume and the vapor may have a burnt taste.
When traveling with an e-cigarette, you can enjoy your favorite habit anywhere in the world. Since it's still a relatively new technology, it's a good idea to exercise caution and be respectful by asking people around you if they mind your electronic smoking. It opens the topic for conversation which could lead to educating more people about e-smoking and making new friends!
