Tips for Making the Switch from Cigarettes to E-Cigs

The very act of smoking has changed drastically from the 1970s to the present day, from advertising to contents and more. The most recent change comes in the form of a smarter smoking alternative, which is helping millions of Americans – and other smokers around the world – make the transition from problematic analog cigarettes, to the modern e-cig.  The e-cig, short for "electronic cigarette," has taken the smoking world by storm, even going so far as to designate the act of e-cig smoking as "vaping."

With Education, the Transition to Vaping is Straightforward

The primary attractants of using modern e-cigs are the reduced health risks and novelty of lighting up electronically. In fact, there are studies on vaping that strongly suggests it gives smokers a greater chance to eventually cease nicotine use altogether.

The following is a blueprint to making the transition smoothly:

1. What to Expect in the Beginning with Modern E-cigs

One of the more attractive attributes of vaping is the reduced nicotine levels. Just keep in mind it could take a bit of time for your body to become acclimated to this. As long as you have realistic expectations, you will eventually reach the desired effect. Just be patient at first.

2. Getting Used to the Touch and Feel

Analog cigarettes are much flimsier than the modern e-cig, which is a solidly-built, metallic cylinder with a heating element inside that atomizes the contents for your enjoyment. At first, you may be surprised by the durability of the e-cig.

3. The Smoking Experience

As a smarter smoking alternative, the electronic cigarette does not actually produce billowing clouds of smoke – and that could take some getting used to if you were a heavy smoker of the analog variety. The tiny swirls of vapor smoke that emanate from an e-cig are devoid of the offensive odor of the traditional cigarette, which means you won't have to worry about the difficult-to-remove smell getting on your household furniture and clothing. Likewise, while it is still a good idea to suck on a breathe mint every once in a while, you may not have to as much with e-cigs!

4. The Effects of Vaping Compared to Smoking

Analog cigarette smokers are plagued by dulled senses of taste and smell. With e-cigs, however, this is not a concern. In fact, even for the smoker, the sense of taste and smell that has been weakened over the years will slowly come back if you make the switch to vapor, returning to what it was before you started smoking. Scientists have determined that e-cigs in general contain far fewer chemicals of the cancer-causing variety, as well as far fewer of the toxins that contribute to dulling of the senses.

5. Vaping is Simply Different than Smoking

The most obvious difference is the lack of smoke clouds, as mentioned earlier. Additionally, the very process of taking a toke differs: with vaping, you take long, slow drags instead of rapid puffs. Since there's a powerful heating element called an atomizer inside, after half-a-dozen drags or so on an e-cig, you'll need to stop for a short time so the unit can cool down.

As you become accustomed to vaping, you'll likely be one of the many new users who collect their favorite flavors out of the many available. Ultimately, there are many reasons to try a modern e-cig and compare it to analog cigarettes – from health reasons, to a more pleasurable experience.
